Hey all,

About 2 days ago, a Search Assistant appeared on my Tool Bar. It appears to the right, nearest the clock. I can switch the Assistant off by simply right clicking inside the toolbar and then removing the tick next to the name (Search Assistant). I've looked in the toolbars properties, but I cannot find a way to remove it perminantly. I don't even know how it has got there, I have not installed anything in the past few days. Does anyone have any sugguestions of how I could remove this 'annoying' assistant?

Thanks,
Sam.

Sam, Did you ever get rid of that toolbar? I've got it too>

SpySweeper try it version is free and should remove that toolbar with ease, download the free version of SpySweeper here: and so goodbye to adwares, spywares, trojans and any other pesky software that doesnt need to be on any computer.

I got it too 10.07.04. I've tried spy sweeper - no luck.
Searched the Windows and Programs folders - nothing that stands out. No idea how it got there. It reinstalls itself to the taskbar after each boot - real annoying.

spike66 and tpp007, have you run through FAQ779-5240 like I suggested in my earlier post? It contains among other things the BHOCop software that bcastner suggested.

Thanx gpalmer for advice. I have looked at FAQ779-5240 and downloaded the following freeware - spy sweeper; bazooka; adaware; xoftware; BHODemon; and Toolbarcop. Unfortunately, none of the above are able to remove the pesty search assistant toolbar next to system tray. I have also tried turning off the 'system restore' prior to using above freeware. Currently running windows xp pro. Would appreciate more advice.

tpp007 try control panel/ add - remove / and look for SA (Search Assistant) or Windows SA.
Sometimes we overlook the obvious :))

I have been dealing with the same problem, and its been so repeatedly annoying, I thought I'd post what I found out today and maybe it will work for all of us. (I got a user name just so I could share the good news of destroying Search Assistant ^.^)

I wrote a complaint email to the company and this is the reply I got:

180search Assistant can be uninstalled manually but this method is
recommended only after trying to uninstall with the uninstaller
( If that doesn’t
work you can try the following:
>>
First you need to “kill” the msbb.exe process, which means starting up
task manager (go to your start menu, choose Run, then type *taskmgr* in
the Run dialog box, then hit enter). Look under the Running Processes
tab, and click on "msbb.exe" if it's in the list. Now click the "End
Process" button. If it's not there, don't worry about it and continue on
with the next step whether you’ve killed the msbb.exe process or not.
Next, do a search on your hard-drive for the file "msbb.exe" and delete
any instances you find. You can do this by going to the Start menu. Then
select Search, then Files and Folders. Next, search your hard drive
(usually the C: drive) for a file called msbb.exe and delete all
instances of it by right clicking on the file and choosing Delete from
the menu.

Hope that helps! I'm gonna restart my computer and hope it does work. It sure sounds better than trying THEIR *uninstall* button which probably does diddly-squat.

Just FYI that I just ran the "Lavasoft Ad-aware 6" and it removed it. Make sure to close all internet browser before you delete the offended list (after it finished scanning) or you will probably have to reboot the system and let it scan again if it found some files (*.dll) that it cannot delete.

I have attempted uninsatlling 180search several times but I always get a debug/close message right at the end

I have tried killing the msbb process and deleting the msbb.exe but sure enough, after restarting the search assistant is still cluttering up the toolbar

However, I got a message from 180Search saying some unauthorised 3rd party has tried uninstalling 180search - I confirmed uninstallation which was "confirmed"

I will see when I reboot this time
