I just bought a Seagate Barracuda 80GB hard drive to replace a drive that died on me last week. Unfortunately, the drive is not recognized in the bios (which is set to auto). I have fooled with the jumpers and still nothing. My motherboard is a few years old (EPox EP-3SPA3L) so I even set the jumpers to limit the drive to 32GB-just in case. Still nothing. I am at a total loss here since everything else seems to be in order --all of my other devices (cd rom, floppy) are found, and all of the connections are good. Any ideas? I see someone else here had a Seagate problem, but this seems to be somewhat different. Thanks in advance.

Check your IDE cables first...and the power cable. If its not that use admin tools to see if Windows sees it...if it does unmount it then mount it back.

This is assuming you are running 2k or XP

Thanks--I should have said that this is a completely new install so I don't have an operating system on it at all. ng the brand new cable that came with the drive and I'm assuming its good. The power cable is working fine.

Do you have another computer you can put it in to make sure it works?

(1) Can you hear the hard drive powering up?

(2) Are you sure your last hard drive 'died' or was it perhaps your motherboard and/or connection port?

(3) Is this drive set as a Master, Slave or Single?

(4) Did you try entering the bios setting manually?
