I currently run Seagate Info 7.0. I tested the newer free version of Seagate Enterprise, but it is not a fully functional version. It is very hard to evaluate, and compare to Info 7.0. I can not recommend Enterprise based on this watered down version. My Seagate salesman has not been helpful with this at all, and wants to charge $20,000 just for me to test the software.
Does anyone know if Seagate ever gives out evaluation copies of Enterprise, say 30 or 60 days?

They did at one contract I was at, but the potential revenue was quite high for them as it was a commercial product to include Crystal Enterprise.

As for comparing the two, I used to use SI 7, and now implement CE versions and I'd never go back, unless it was my money as SI 7 was free ;)

If you want a robust WEB deployment, with basically everything that SI had, plus a whole lot more, CE is a reasonable way to go, it's just overpriced.

As you've found, you can't really compare CE8 Standard to SI7 because the feature sets are so different. At minimum, you should compare CE8.5 Pro to SI7.

Like synapsevampire, I used to use Info and have moved to CE. I've been able to obtain evaluation licenses for CE 8.5 for two different companies, but I also ended up purchasing $50K - $100K of software. Since you're an existing customer looking to upgrade your software, this shouldn't be an issue at all.

If you're not having any luck with your account exec then ask for a sales manager.

Thank you for the feedback. It was very helpful.

FYI...
I contacted Seagate yesterday again to try and request a evaluation copy of Enterprise. I spoke to what turned out to be a nasty saleswomen, who informed me in no certain terms that they did not need my sale, that I would have to pay $20,000.00 for the evaluation copy, have Seagate come in and do a department wide evaluation of our report printing operation, AND (this it totally unbelievable) the SALESWOMAN HUNG UP ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CONVERSATION! Not in 27 years has ANYONE hung up the phone on me. I was in total shock that a company like Seagate would employ a salesperson that would even think of doing something as unprofessional as that.

I suggest that you try to contact someone further upstream, and explain the specifics of your previous attempt.

Thanks. Actually, I just finished a telephone call with the head of the Sales Department, who was shocked at the behavior of one of her employees. Seagate will have a representative give me a call with an answer to my question of acquiring an evaluation copy of Enterprise.

Hi Horna,

Just out of curiousity, may I ask which city you are in, and if you like, who hang up on you? Most of my dealings have been with some pretty nice people - good to know who to avoid!

cheers...J

Unfortunately, I did not get her name. It was at the end of the day, I carpool, and I was pressed for time. The manager at Seagate apologized, and told me that I would receive a call concerning the evaluation copy of Enterprise. I have not received a call yet. I guess the nasty saleswomen was right, Seagate does not need the sale. We will have to develope this program in house.
