Hi! Need to have a better understanding of the expansion cards on a PDA. Getting a Tungsten W. Comes with 16MB of SD RAM. When I do the research, SD cards show you can save info to them? I thought (and maybe I'm wrong here) that a 256MB SD expansion card would increase the RAM, not really storage space? Kind of confused. Anyone who could better explain how I can increase the RAM and exactly what to get (as well as what card to get for storage) would be great. Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

There isn't really a way to increase the "RAM" inside a unit (and anyone that argues that hardware hacks are available "and a good idea" for the general consumer is simply crazy). The expansion card will, however, solve the majority of a person's memory related issues if used wisely.

1. Many of the more popular applications available today may be stored on an expansion card, and launched (using the standard Palm Launcher) directly off of the card (technically they're copied into RAM while they run, but they don't stay in RAM)

2. Many applications have the ability to store their data on an expansion card thus minimizing RAM usage for data storage.

Applications like CardPro, and various third party Launchers can make managing data on an expansion card easier (although not always as seemless as they could be). More often that not you won't even need one of these third party product.

I'll give you a few links in case you'd like to learn a little more about your options, but my suggestion would be to keep things simple. Get the device, learn how to install applications to the card (and launch them from the card), then, if things aren't working as you'd like, consider a third party Launcher or file manager.

Here is a review of several Launchers that may be useful"

Here is a newer idea that is kind of interesting:

I hope this helps.
