I am a newbie at SCSI. The network admin asked me to install an external tape device to the server. In the registry I examined the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SCSI key and it had the following subkeys:
Scsi Port 0
Scsi Port 1
Scsi Port 2
If I go into Start-Settings-Control Panel-Scsi Adapters I can glean the following information:
SONY TSL-11000 is SCSI Port 0 (external tape drive)
NEC CD-ROM DRIVE is SCSI Port 1
SONY TSL-9000 is SCSI Port 1 (internal tape drive)
Since ports 0, 1 and 2 were presumably used by these other devices, I set the external tape SCSI ID to 3 and daisy chained it to the other external tape device after shutting down the server and cutting power to it and the tape device. I then turned on the external tape devices then turned on the server. When I went into SCSI adapters in start-settings-control panel--I had "no device found" where the SONY TSL-11000 (external) had been earlier.
I was hoping somebody could show me the error of my ways and point me in the right direction...
Thanks.
