Greetings,

I recently purchased a new SCSI card thinking it would boost my quantum atlas IV 9 up to u160.

I bought an LSI Logic U160 Pci Card. The card works fine, but I realized that my hard drive is the 'quantum atlas iv 9 WLS' which is not ultra-160.

I'm going to buy a 160 drive now, but I'm confused as to what interface exactly is needed. I think the LSI card's connector is a 68 pin and my cable is a 68 pin. What drive do i get? If I buy a drive with an 80 pin connector, I need a converter correct? Will I sync at 80MB if I go down from 80 pin to 68 pin?

Hi,
Ultra 160(also LVD) come in 2 different data connector formats, the normal one is the one with the 68 pin connector and the less common one is the one with the 80pin
connector (SCA). When you order your new drive make sure your ordering/getting an ULTRA 160 drive with a 68pin connector and not the one with the SCA 80 connector. Also if you like you could get an Ultra320 drive for the same money. Ultra 320 drives are fully compatible with the ultra160 SCSI cards and also handy for the next upgrade.

thanks for your reply,

turns out my drive IS an u160 drive and the reason why it was running at 40MB was because i was using a passive SE terminator thus dropping the whole chain down to 40.

i bought a u160 active LVD terminator and all is well!

thanks
