SCSI CD not recognized by NT

Hi,

I have a Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server, SP6 with Metaframe 1.8, SP3. I have 2 CD drives, one IDE and one SCSI. The IDE drive is a RW drive and is recognized with or without any CD software installed. The SCSI is recognized at boot by the SCSI Bios but NT does not recognize it at all.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

You can check for theSCSI devices in Nt4 in the control panel--> Scsi Adaptors.Check if it id showing there or not . then install the proper drivers for you SCSI card then you willl able to work with SCSI Cd-rom in windows NT4

I don't see a SCSI Adaptors icon in my control panel. The drivers for my adaptor are installed. When the system boots the bios sees the CD-rom and also when the SCSI boots it sees the CD-rom. For some reason NT will not recognize the drive.

bcsinc, there should be a SCSI adaptors icon in Control Panel. It comes by default with Windows NT.

Have you tried right clicking and sorting by name (to align the icons nicely in the window).

Once you get into the applet, you can install drivers for your SCSI card. Until you do so, NT will not see the SCSI CD-ROM.

I note though you say the drivers are installed - how do you know they are installed? SCSI Adaptors (the applet) will be able to tell you what drivers are installed, and whether or not they are started.

There are no real drivers for SCSI CD-ROMs that I am aware of. So long as the SCSI card drivers are installed, NT should be able to pick up the device. MCSE NT4/W2K

Hi,

Do you login with Administrative id. cause you will get icon if you are login with administrative id.Then you can install SCSI adapter driver abd you can able to check the specific device drives are started or not.

There is no icon in the control panel. But, I do now recall setting up my tape backup using an icon in the control panel that is missing now. I don't recall if it was defined as SCSI Tape config or SCSI adaptor config. Either way, the icon is missing. I do know the backup is working and the SCSI driver is installed at boot, which BTW recognizes the SCSI CD at that point.

Do you happen to know the executable for the SCSI config icon and how I can replace it.

You would have used either Tape Devices, or SCSI adaptors. Icon looks sort of like <= (hard to draw in ASCII)

As for the executable, I would have thought it would be a .CPL file in C:\Winnt somewhere, but I can't find it... :|

I can find almost every other Control Panel item, just not that one. It should have a .cpl extension though if you want to search your hard drive. MCSE NT4/W2K

Do I understand you correctly when you say Tape Devices or SCSI adaptors? Do you mean one or the other, or both? What I recall is it must have been the Tape Devices in my case. Should I be able to config the SCSI CD in the Tape Devices or should there also be a SCSI adaptors icon where I can set up my SCSI CD drive?

Of course, this is only if I can get the icons back.
