Scrolling problem in Word97

It's always your favourite "customers" that find these faults...!!!!

Anyway, when they select a portion of text in Word which requires them to "scroll" beyond the bottom of the visible page, rather than being able to simply stop the scroll by releasing the mouse button, Word (?) continues to highlight the selected area to the end of the document...???

I've read a few documents on this ranging from deselecting "feedback with animation" to a couple of registry parameters in HKCU - livescrolling and smoothscrolling - neither of which appear to work...???

Any help is appreciated.....

I have never found a solution to this problem, if any body does I would be most interested. There are also problems with the cursor disappearing in Word97. I had to set the cursor to blink slowly to sort that out, but it still disappears for a while sometimes.

I have found that a more powerful PC has the problem less or not at all. I suspect that a low spec PC (I am talking of a pentium 75-166) can not cope with certain aspects of Citrix and either the display or mouse drivers can not react fast enough.

If this is true, it sorts of removes one of the advantages of Citrix, in that you could recycle old kit with out performance penaties. Strange these problems are not brought to people's attention before one has invested in thin client.

I think this might have something to do with Autoscroll..??? Does anyone know if the Autoscroll feature can be applied to selecting text (or more importantly!!) how to disable...????

This is weird......sometimes I logon and can scroll with apparent control over the scrolling rate and other times its uncontrollable......the server load etc. is relatively constant...

I've tried setting the above registry keys and various settings within Word (like disabling everything..!!!)

Has anyone "experimented" with speedscreen....???

ANY suggestions....????!!!

As far as I am aware the only solution to this is a workaround. ie. Place the cursor where you want the selection to begin, press the shift key and scroll to the end of the selection and click in the appropriate place.

The correct selection should then be highlighted.

For CHIFU re. blinking cursor; registry parameter change, dont know if this is what you were looking for....????

I had similar problems, with blinking or disappearing mousepointers. It helped to stop the 'on the fly'-spellchecker.
