why do you not like the scrollTo Method?
A solution but not very professionally is This:
in the position that you want you insert a form and a input type text with the name that you want to assign.
this element must to have a style: width:0;height:0;
in the onload:
document.nameForm.nameInputTypeText.focus().

I think that it's good to use the scrollTo
