scroll area position

I have set up a layer that self centers on the page and that works well. Inside it is a scrollbox with scrolling text. That also works well previewed in Firefox, but in IE6, when the up or down buttons are clicked, the scrollbox repositions itself a couple of hundred pixels to the right although scrolling still works. Presumably there is some interaction between the javascript of the action and the CSS positioning.

Can anyone explain this behaviour to me and give me a way to fix it?

Not a single response - looks like I have found the unsolvable mystery of web design!

IE is so full of bugs it never ceases to amaze me. Please post a link to your page. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and maybe i can see what's going on.

Although not the problem, the fact that it doesn't validate won't help - 22 errors according to the W3C.

I wasn't able to get it to work in IE either. I don't think the problem is with the CSS or xhtml. I believe it's the javascript your using to scroll the text.

A couple notes about your design. Your arrows work the opposite way that i expected them to and the graphic along side looks like a scroll bar and i kept trying to click or drag it.

Thanks for the design advice - I'll work on that. It was only a rough idea of the design anyway so I could check out the mechanics of the site.

As for the javascript, I used the standard Adobe Golive Actions Palette and went along with Michael Ahgren's scroll area action tutorial so I can't understand why it should be faulty. And why does it work OK in Firefox?

I have tried to validate myself (not sure how to do this or what the messages mean) by using Check Syntax within Golive. The only error I get is Lines 80 and 81:

where it says that csmup and csmdown are not allowed. Why has Golive generated these if they are not allowed?

I recommend you get the Web Developer plug-in for Firefox.

I got the plug-in (thanks for the tip) and can now see the 22 errors which seem, as you say, to refer entirely to the javascript.

I will take your advice and try the Mindpalette forum and in the meantime, many many thanks for your help and advice
