Can the screen saver on Win 2000 be locked so it cannot be changed?

We have some employees who tend to put inappropriate screen savers on their workstations, so I am tasked to correct the situation.

Thanks.

Are you using AD in a Domain? If so, there is a GPO to lock the screen saver.

This network is not on a domain. It is a workgroup.

You can use Group Policy to affect these changes:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

These are the REG_SZ values that control the screensaver:

ScreenSaveActive = 1 (If 0, screensavers are not active)
ScreenSaverIsSecure = 1 (a 0 = no password protection)
ScreenSaveTimeOut = 600 (for 10 minutes)
SCRNSAVE.EXE = C:\WINNT\System32\myscreensaver.scr (or whatever screensaver file name you selected)

Also check this key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

The same settings apply to the case where no one is logged on to the workstation.
