I think Windows XP and probably other newer systems as well say they require 800x600 minimum. Virtually all new laptops are coming out with 1280x1024 or at least 1024x768, although some widescreen laptops are 1440x900 or with larger pixels only 1280x800. It looks like the new minimum will soon be 1024x768.
