Hi,

Is it possible to capture print screens showing a drop down sub-menu. The main menu is okay using ALT,CNTL,PRINT SCREEN. The sub menu disappears using ALT.
I'm having to crop the picture at present.

thanks

Word 2000
Windows 2000

Not quite understanding.

You want to do a full screen capture? PrintScreen simply dumps the video buffer of the entire screen. So of course you almost always have to crop things.

Why are you using Alt, Ctrl, PrintScreen?

If you are using ALt. something, and something else to get a sub-menu, PrintScreen still does a full screen dump, and that would include any visible sub-menus. Works for me.

Please state OS and other pertinent details (applications, other steps you are doing etc.)

Hi Gerry,

I hve a toolbar sitting over other programmes.
If I use ALT,CNTL,PRINT SCREEN all that is captured is a database toolbar(bespoke system) and not any other programmes showing on the screen.
However this method doesn't work if there is a drop down menu is showing. Pressing ALT causes the menu to disappear.

I 've been told by our I.T. that it isn't possible to capture a drop down menu only to print a full screen and crop as required !!
Word 2000 & Windows 2000 used

Thought i would ask anyway.

thanks

Still confused....oh....maybe not. Are you saying you have some sort of utility for screen capture? And that it is invoked by using Alt-Ctrl-PrintScreen?

You do not state you are using some sort of screen capture utility - I would recommend that if this is the c ase, it is rather a pertinent piece of information.

Your IT people may be right. My original response was to the original post, which stated:
Is it possible to capture print screens showing a drop down sub-menu.
The answer to which is, of course...Yes. Do a PrintScreen and crop. But if you are using a (un-named) capture utility that uses the key combination of Alt-Ctrl-PrintScreen, then clearly you can not get sub-menus. Don't know, as i don't know (but suspect you are) what the utility may be. If there is a problem, use printScreen, and crop - it WILL get the sub menus.

I can print screen using just the Print Screen key -- no Ctrl or Alt required. And then Alt + V pastes it into word.

WingandaPrayer,

There are two standard keyboard methods to copy stuff from the screen to the clipboard.

PrintScreen key on its own copies the entire screen, the copy will include dropped menus

Alt-PrintScreen copies the active window, dropped menus are retracted before the copy is made.

I don't think the Ctrl key needs to be involved.

Thanks for all the advice.
Looks like IT were correct.

Actually, that's almost correct.

PrintScreen will print the active screen. So if you have a Word Dialog box open, PrintScreen will just copy the Dialog. However, if you have a menu list or dropdown list open, it will copy the whole screen still.

So PrintScreen will do what you need.
