Is it possible to screen capture the Alt-Tab box? If so, does anyone know how?

Download the free 30 trial of SnagIT from
This is the best screen capture software I have ever used. One of the features is to set a time delay on the screen capture. This allows you to set a delay of say 10 seconds and then bring up the Alt-Tab dialog for capture.

Greg - Thanks for the tip. However, install rights are prohibited. I'm assuming since you suggested a seperate software that the ability screen capture the alt-tab box is not in Windows?

I Don't believe so. Are you wanting a generic capture of the Alt-Tab dialog? If so i'll happily take one and then post it on my site for download.

Greg - Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, I need the alt-tab box to have specific icons on it (specifically Primavera Project Management as run through Citrix) for training purposes. Thanks for the help though.

Are you able to download and run files so long as they do not install anything?

If so then I have put together a small application that will do the job for you.

All you need to do is run the screenprint.exe that is contained in the zip file.

Click Capture and then click Capture Screen. The application will minimize itself. You then have 5 seconds to display the Alt-Tab screen. After the 5 seconds it will capture the screen and display it in the software.

Now click on Capture and then Save Picture, enter a location and file name for the picture and click save.

Note you must save the picture as a bitmap, i.e. mypic.bmp.

Hope this helps.
