Hi, can anyone direct me to a good description of streams usage and what can be expected on SCO? Also packet expectations on localhost. My SCO server is running out of streams and I have been unable to find the reason.

netstat -m shows a continual increase in the number of streams used and continues to rise overnight when no-one is on the system. This problem did not seem to happen until the Unix's IP address was added to a DNS table controlled by an NT server.

netstat -i shows a fairly high number of packets on localhost. After a night with no-one on the server the number of packets on localhost is higher than those on the network cards which I believe is indicating a problem but I cannot find any doco to confirm this.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Are you certain that all that was done was adding this boopy to the NT's tables?

Something is eating these up. I'd start by identifying processes that are using network services (lsof, available from is the easist way to do this).

Examining those processes will show which is hanging about and using up memory and resources. That will at least point you to where the problem lives, and that's half the battle of fixing it.

You might find helpful too.

Thanks, I've seen references to lsof but haven't known where to find it. I will download and test.
