I have an internal Unix server that is running filepro on my domain. I want to set this server up to route it's sendmail out through the corporate exchange server 5.5. I know this is possible I am just having trouble finding documentation on the procedures to accomplish this task. I have configured the exchange server to accept the incoming connection. THe SCO box can ping the server the exchange server is setting on. I have attempted to configure the sendmail.cf file on the SCO box to set the exchange server up as a smart host and the exchange servers names is set up as the DS macro. I however do not have DNS configured on the SCO box, but it is configure on the domain controller which is an NT box. Any suggestion would be great.

When you say it can ping the exchange server is this by name or IP? If it can't resolve the name then sendmail won't be able to either. To point your sco box to your NT nameserver add the line:

nameserver IPOFDOMAINCONTROLLER

to /etc/resolv.conf

Can you send mail to a user on the exchange server?
If you can then it is the exchange server that has a problem relaying or forwarding the mail.

Stanhubble,

Yes, I can ping the exchange server by name. And to answer your second question, no I can not send mail from the SCO box to any mail clients set up on the exchange server.

Thanks

stanhubble,

I figured it out, but thanks could not have done it with out your assistance.

What was the cause of the problem?
Someone else may benefit from knowing the solution.

There was a couple of issue that I had to resolve. One being that in the resolv.conf file I had put in the incorrect ip address which was due to a typo. THe second was that in my Exchange Server was set up not to relay messages from the domain. SO by adding in the subnet for the SCO box it began relaying. Also I had to tweak the sendmail.cnf file so that DNS was resolving the ip address of the Exchange servers internal ip and not the external ip.

trg2d,

Searching the forum I found this posting and noticed you use filePro. I use filePro myself.

I wonder:
A) Where are you located?
B) What kind of application are you running?
C) What's your name?
D) Are you in the filePro list?

Just find it interesting to come across filePro users in places such as this.

Regards;
