I cannot reach my sco 5.0.6 server over the WAN even though the default gateway is setup and correct.
When I run netstat -rn the default route is pointing to my router correctly.

However, I cannot ping this server over the WAN.Computers on the same network as the server can see it ok.

Why can't I see this server from another network? I can see other computers ok but not the server. What setting am I missing?

Is your router configured to let systems from the WAN side access this server? You only talk about this side going _to_ the WAN side.

some routers don't let ping packets through. What kind of router are you using? Is it also a firewall?

There could be many answers depending on a variety of information you possibly omitted in your questions.

Is your router configured to let systems from the WAN side access this server? Yes. I can ping the computer right next to the server. The problem is pinging this server. There are other computers that I can access through the router (Cisco2600). For some strange reason I can't seem to get to the server.

ok your clients know how to get there but does the server know how to get back...
your default route is to the router...ok
what other routes do you have defined?
is the wan a different subnet?
can other machines on the LAN side ping the SCO server?

If you are still having a problem ... Have you checked the netmask and broadcast address of the server you can't ping? I had a similar problem. Each of our restaurants have its own network. I could ping from corporate servers to each restaurant but not from one restaurant to the other. Once I fixed all the netmasks and broadcast addresses in the restaurants everything worked fine.

Bandersn, Thanks for your suggestion. I actually had that in mind but did not check. What file would I find the broadcast & Netmask? Is it the tcp file?

Yes, this is in the tcp file (search on ifconfig to find it quickly). I also run SCO 5.0.6 and I usually log in as root and run netconfig. If you need the full path, it is /etc/netconfig. This will give you options to view or modify the configuration and prompt you to rebuild the kernel if you make changes.

Bandersn,I found the problem. The netmask and broadcast were ok in the tcp file. But when I used scoadmin and checked the network settings, the broadcast address was pointing to my router. Don't know how this happened.

Everything is ok now. Thanks Bandersn, for your help.

Thanks to all others who tried to help me. I am most great ful for your resonses.
