I was wondering if anyone has had any trouble before with a certain MegaRAID controller in SCO OS 5.0.6

Server is incredibly slow, and a sar -u shows that %usr is taking up 100% of resources.

Eventually I tracked down the problem to /etc/amirdmon . When I killed this process and the %usr dropped to 0%. I had to respawn the bugger ( Its the RAID controller! ) but I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before or can recommend a good resource for this sort of thing.

Thanks, Dean Owen

What i can say to you is make sure that your Os have installed all the supplements for that version.

The supplements always help in performance and all that little things that makes the system slow.

Here is the list of the supplements:

FOR OPENSERVER RELEASE 5.0.6----------------------------

Major Supplements:

Release Supplement 506A for SCO OpenServer 5.0.6

I've had the same problem with amirdmon. I wound up just moving it to amirdmon.sav and rebooted. All is good now.
It's still safe because the MegaRaid program has an alarm that sounds if a hard drive fails with or without this monitor.

I'm also having a performance issue with the same setup only using the Infortrend controller, but haven't found a way to disable it yet. (if that's what's causing my slowdown)

Thanks,
Don

Out of curiosity, are those of you having the amirdmon problem running the latest PERC drivers (2.1.4) from (percsco.exe) and have you installed the updated firmware included with the driver? Annihilannic.

Hi there...

Looking at the driver you pointed out doesn't list PowerEdge 600 or 500sc in the compatible systems list.
I'll give it a try and run some tests though.

Have you had any experience with the Infortrend controller?
We have a IFT-2101UB Raid controller in some other servers that are running slow as well. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Don.

I correct me, the PERC2/SC firmware is only included in the 2.1.2 driver (SCOPERC.ZIP). Which version of the PERC do you have exactly?

Sorry, I've not encountered that RAID controller. Annihilannic.

PERC 3/SC RAID Controller is what's in our Dell servers.

Thanks for your help though. Much appreciated.
I'll keep searching for the cause of the slow down on the other servers.

Thanks again,
Don
