I have an HP Laserjet 4200tn set up as lp4 on a SCO Openserver 5.05 box. I can print to it fine except for selecting the paper source tray(s). What I want to do is when a print job (invoice) is sent to the printer have it automatically print one copy from each paper tray (each tray is loaded with a different color paper).

I have tried doctoring the interface script, adding echo "\033&l1H\c" just before the cat command, then placing echo "\033&l4H\c", then repeating the cat command. But the printer just prints 2 copies from the same tray.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps there's a trailing control character from a previous echo/cat or something?? Not sure.

But, for what it's worth, I've recently edited my interfaces script (hp4laser) for a HP2300n setting the paper type to A4 instead of the default letter size. This worked just fine. But instead of inserting a new line echo'ing my own parameters (as you did), I updated the variable assignment RESETJOB=

Also, make sure you find the right interfaces script. If you're running a networked HP then it's likely to be in the directory "/usr/spool/lp/admins/lp/interfaces/model.orig". I'm working with 5.0.7 but I've got no reason to expect any different for 5.0.5.

Hope this helps.

Take care on any "\033E" (soft reset) in your print file.

Hope This Help
