I have a sco 5.0.5 machine with a single nic set up as a DNS server. Most of the time the system operates perfectly but every night the dns stops working. The only odd thing I can see is that the machine can't see itself. It is possible to ping or telnet to local host and it responds to an external ping or telnet. If I ping it from itself by its name or ip it resolves the name ok but I get no response. The same is true of telnet. The arp table shows an incomplete entry for itself.
Short of a complete rebuild I am out of ideas and would welcome any sugestions...

The only time I have seen this isse was when the stock CRON jobs to clean tmp files etc. runs ( nightly) it may have an effect. May try commenting out any cron jobs that run just to see if all is ok in the morning.

Sorry no answers, just more questions...

Does the named server stop at this point?
#ps -eaf | grep named

Also what happens if you ping or telnet using 127.1 instead of IP?
