Good morning, group,

i'm having a problem with SCO 5.0.5 concerning routing/standard gateway. I entered my default gateway into /etc/gateways and after boot/start of routed everything works fine:

-access to destination hosts ok
-netstat -r shows default gateway

But after some minutes (about five), the default gateway disappears (netstat -r) and network connections to the destination hosts are no longer possible.

When I kill routed and restart it again, settings are ok again for the next some minutes.

I now defined a static route to the destination (route add ...) which works until the next boot.

Now my question:
Could somebody please explain that behaviour to me? Should I define a permanent static route and that's it?

Thanks for your help!

Regards..

Guido

Hi again -
just found the FAQ concerning my issue - good stuff :).

But I still would like to know.. why does the default gateway disappear?

Do you have it defined as an active gateway? If so, and it's not responding to routed with routing information, routed might be deleting its route.

This behaviour is described on the routed man page. Personally I disable it and only use static routes which are installed at boot time. Annihilannic.

Hi -

thanks for your fast response!

Yes. And it works, as I told - but only for abt. 5 minutes.

It's what I did, too. It works and that should be enough.
