I have an IP Office 500 Release 5 and a 406 Release 5 PCS 13. I am trying to get the two networked to share calls. Currently we have voicemail pro with the IP Office 500 at Site A. Site B is on a VPN with Site A.

I have set up IP Routes between the two sites. I have also 'tried' to set up IP Line between the two sites. As it is I can get a single call to go between the sites with no problem. After the first call whenever I try and cross the IP Line again it says unobtainable and gives me a fast busy. Oddly enough I can access the voicemail from site B consistently.

Now when I went to set up the IP Line between the two sites the only option I had that even resembled the IP Line was H323. Was IP Line replaced? What am I missing and how can I get the calls going between sites? Is this mysterious H323 line the issue?

The ip406 does not need any licenses but the ip500 needs networking licenses.
Do you have it on the ip500 ?

Yes I have networking licenses on the IP 500.

Good to know they changed the name of it from 4.2 to 5.0.
So why would one call get through just fine but not any after it (unless you reboot)?

Example

System A has ipaddress 192.168.1.1
System B has ipaddress 192.168.2.1

Gateway A has ipaddress 192.168.1.254
Gateway B has ipaddress 192.168.2.254

System A

Ipline

Line number 10
Incoming group ID 10
Outgoing group ID 10
Number of channels (depends on VCM channels)
Gateway ipaddress: 192.168.2.1
Check option voice networking
Iproute

192.168.2.1
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.254
Lan 1

System B

Ipline

Line number 11
Incoming group ID 11
Outgoing group ID 11
Number of channels (depends on VCM channels)
Gateway ipaddress: 192.168.1.1
Check option voice networking
Iproute

192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0
192.168.2.254
Lan 1

You brought up an interesting point. I do not believe I paid much attention to the number of VCM channels. Could this cause the issues I've been experiencing?

wouldn't have thought so. the minimum you would probably have is 4, so unless they are being used locally by other devices there will be enough to get a few calls across.

Yes, that could be :)
If you setup 1 channel then you have 1 channel.
If you setup 10 channels then you have 10 channels but you have to do that on both sites and have enough VCM channels

So 20 channels and 4 VCMs would leave me with 16 'unobtainables'. Do these go round robin? I am just thinking of testing the hypothesis prior to changing it.

After 4 calls you will get that but it is not circular so the 5th call should go fine when there are free VCM channels.

I have changed the number of channels down to 4 on both sides of the IP Line and it still is not connecting the calls. I am still getting the unobtainable and fast busy.

Do I need an incoming call route on either side? IF so what should it look like?

Ipline do not use the ICR.
It checks users,groups and shortcodes
