I need to write a package that will allow me to cycle through multiple integrations (journal entry uploads) automatically. Does anyone know of any resources that will give me some direction?
Be careful - while you can use the Task Scheduler to call a batch file containing a command line call to launch IM there are some caveats. This is not a highly robust and durable solution, so you can't set it and forget it.
Second, GP has to be running and logged in to the target company before you launch IM. You can write a login macro to do this but make sure to allow time to get tup to speed.
The login macro usually works but the exiting GP does not work consistently and depends on the version you are using.
The cool thing is the SQL Optimized integrations. GP is not required to be running so there is no need for a login or logout macro. This is keeps you from tying up a user against your user count.
Unfortunately, they have only written certain destinations and Journal Entry is not one of them. Funny that they do GL Account which is typically a one time integration.
The last response indicated that journal entry upload is not a destination for Integration Mananger. That is not correct. The destination is named "General Journal". We use it all the time. To get a complete list of the destinations, open Integration Manager and click on Help \ Contents and then on Destinations \ Available Destinations. I can provide the spreadhseet we upload from (or you could use text files amongst other possibilities) and any set up help you might need for manually uploading the entries. I have not, however, set up any automatic or scheduled job to do it.
I'm sorry that was misleading. What I meant was that General Journal was not a destination in SQL Optimized adapter.
Yes, I also do General Journal integrations. I have a client who uses them so much from another system that I wrote the integrations using the Excel data source.
Unfortunately, those require you to either run while GP is open or use a macro that logs in and logs out. The log out macro doesn't work consistently on version 7.
Thank you all very much for the responses. This part of my project has been held up while I complete some other things. However, I expect to get back to this in a couple of weeks. I'm sure I'll have more questions then.
Again, thanks very much, I really appreciate people taking the time to read this and respond.
