My problem is that I set a scan to run at night while nobody is here, and the users are logged off. It will not run except at log in. I want to have it run while they are logged off.

Are you sure the users are not shutting down? With NAVCE 7.5 if nobody is logged on the scan runs with system privileges.

I have my scans run at noon. Works well for most users.

Interesting, I've never had any problems with NAVCE running in an NT environment with the users logged off. In fact, that's the only time the scans are run.

Could you please point me to any info on this issue?

Thanks!

polymath5,

I saw this problem about 2 years ago when working in a small NT4 network. They were using the desktop edition of NAV. Here is an extract from Symantec's Knowledge Base:

Scheduled scans for Norton AntiVirus 2000/2001 do not run when logged off

Situation:
You are using Norton AntiVirus 2000 or 2001 (NAV) under Windows 2000/NT. You scheduled a scan to run at a specific time. If you are logged on to Windows, then the scan runs as expected. However, if you have logged off--or have restarted the computer but not yet logged on--then the scan does not run. When you do log on, the scan starts to run. In this case, when you check the NAV log, you find that the scan is shown as having run at the scheduled time, not the time it actually ran.

Solution:
This problem is being investigated by Symantec and the cause is not known.

To work around the problem:
Do not schedule events through the Norton AntiVirus program interface. Instead, schedule them directly through the Windows Task Scheduler. Make sure that the Task Scheduler is running as a Service and is set to "Automatic." The command that needs to be executed is Navwnt.exe /L.

I'm sorry, I thought we were referring to the Corp Ed of NAV. Not the home version. Yeah, I've seen the need to be sure the windows scheduler is running on NAV 2002 and others.

Your command and link should be spot on for JAMNKEFRT's problem. He should 'star' you for that.
