I have a server that is not in a group (it is unmanaged) and I have created a scheduled scan and live update to run every day. This server is running Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0.1.1000 on a Windows 2000 server. The live update is scheduled to run about 30 minutes before the scan and my problem is the scan never runs but the live update does. The live update runs every morning without problem and downloads the virus definition updates if there is a newer one but the scheduled scan never runs. I can manually run the scan but I need for this to be
done automatically. I have other unmanaged clients that run with no problems but this one server does not.

How did you setup the scheduled scan? There are multiple ways to setup a scan in SAVCE, and some of them ONLY run when a user is logged in.

I set it up through the symantec antivirus program on the server itself while logged on as an administrator. I used the scheduled scans option in the symantec antivirus client and chose to run it every day at a certain time.

If you setup the scan through the Symantec Antivirus Client gui, then it will ONLY run when the administrator account is logged in.

Do you have a Symantec Antivirus server to manage this client?

If not, there is another option to get a scan running in the background using an unsupported utility on the SAV CD called CONFIGED.EXE.
It allows you to create a configuration file (GRC.DAT) which you can drop in the c:\documents and settings\all users\application date\symantec antivirus\7.5 folder. This GRC.DAT can for example contain a scheduled scan with your preferences.
The configed utility is a graphical utility, that is pretty easy to use. To delete any scans that are no longer necessary, you will need to remove a registry key that will be similar to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\LocalScans\ClientServerScheduledScan1

For more info on the key:

I hope this gives you a few ideas.

I do have a Symantec Antivirus server but I do not want this client managed so I will look into the information that you provided to see if I can work around this problem.

Thank you!!

Configed.exe is located in the NOSUPRT folder on the Symantec Antivirus CD.

- run it
- setup a scheduled scan with your preferences (do not change any other settings)
- save the grc.dat
- copy it to the 7.5 folder
- restart the symantec antivirus service
- proceed to View, Scheduled Scans in the SAV client and you should see it there.
- proceed to the registry key to compare it to what you see in the GUI (just for your reference)
