Am I going crazy, or is windows 2003 backup program absolutely rubbish?

I am trying to setup a simple procedure for backing up the system state each weekday, to, for example sysstateMON.bkf, sysstateTUES.bkf etc. However when I save/scehdule the job, it seems to ignore these names and just remember the first one I chose.

Am I misunderstanding how this backup works or am I better off with a 3rd party product to do this?

thanks
Rob

How exactly are you doing this? Are you trying to get ONE job to name things differently or are you trying to get 5 different jobs to work?

I would suggest you use a script. I have a sample (extensive) one you can use and/or modify - see

Hi Rob,

The alternative to using a script/NTbackup, you may like to check out BackupAssist.

I found it much simpler because all you do is when choosing the backup file name, you can add a "Day variable" to your file name. I think its %Medialabel".

Hope that helps.
