I have posted this message a couple of times. I am not sure if I am providing enough information.

using:
Backup Exec 8.50
MS Exchange
Windows 2k Server

I have a problem, ever since July 4th holiday we did not replace the tape on July 5th and returned to replace the tape on Monday, July 8th. We have a byte count that has been consistent with previous successful jobs, but we can not get a success since the 4th.

I tried everything from:
rebuilding the schedule job,
cleaning tape drive,
new tapes,
new hardware drivers,
unchecking follow junction points,
unchecking verify option,
renaming the catalog directory,
checking the license and version numbers,
checking with Veritas Support and no help except that it might be hardware related.

I think it is something in the software because run a complete successful backup on the exchange server.

Our company has more than 60 workstations and I am starting to wonder if one of them is left on, will the backup run?

Please respond with anything. Tell me to find another job.

Thanks

How do you know your backup is not working? The job may say "not successful" but if you check the log your backup may be working. Our weekly backup displays "Unsuccessful" becuase we are backing up directories that use active database files but everything else gets backed up but the job still displays unsuccessful. Try checking your log and post the results here so we can get some more info.

Check the Veritas website for the latest version, this sometimes fixes unsuccessful messages because newer builds know what some file types are that previous did not.

If you could post the job log THAT would help enormously. (Remember to edit anything sensitive!)

I know its drastic but have you tried uninstalling the entire veritas suite?

Go with your gut, tell everyone theres a shut down tonight and go round and make sure all PC's are switched off.

Run a complete virus scan on your server(s).

Hope this gets you started until you can post a job log.

thanks, for the responses i will post a log here soon.

Your mail boxes look funny. I would first check you are using the latest version of the software if you are get the users to save these specific e-mails to a .pst file and see what happens then.

Just because backup exec says it failed doesn't necessarily mean it has!
