Scene detection outside of capturing?

I captured a video using another computer and brought it to my own, importing it into Adobe Premiere. I'd like to use the scene detect feature (instead of going through extremely long files to divide into scenes) and I'm not sure if it's possible to do it outside of the capturing process. Is it possible? And if it isn't, what kind of program can I use to divide my clips into scenes?

The original (free) version of Scenalyzer ( will split up existing AVI files optically.

The full version of Scenalyzer v4 will split on capture and has an option to detect scenes in clips already captured. The benefit of this program is that it can be set to use the date/time embedded in DV files and so reconstruct the original camera clips. Lots of other great benefits to using SClive for routine capture rather than Premiere.

Pinnacle DV500 software (v4.5 drivers) includes a filter to split up files on the Premiere timeline.
