Working with/learning video editing using Premier 6.0

Everyone told me right at first that I would need an AIEE card with a 'firewire' cable in order to capture videos from video cameras. So, one AIEE card and $50 later, I haven't come across one camera that has this connection.

Today, we connected a camera to an external DVD player/recorder and recorded onto a DVD disc. This disc plays fine on THAT recorder to TV, but my external playback-only DVD player will not recognize the disc when I try to play on TV- messages says 'BAD DISC'. This disc will not play back on my internal DVD player/burner either- saying that Windows does not recognize this format.

So, just how in hell does one get material off of a digital video camera onto/into his computer in order to edit????????????

The missing piece of information is what type of camera you have and what you have been trying to connect it with to your computer.

If you camera lacks FireWire, I wonder if it is a still camera, not a video camera?

More details, please, so I can try to help.
