SCCM - Planning

Hi,
We're in the process of upgrading to SCCM 2007 and here are the specs:

Clients:
8500 workstations
350 servers

We plan to implement asset inteligence and software meetering.

The server that we're planning to implement is an HP ML 580 G5 with 4 quad core processors.

My question is if this server is overkill for the ammount of clients and the services that we will enable.

I would say depending on what you do with it, that its not enough. If you want it to be a MP DP RP CAP SLP< and you do much reporting and software pushes, you'll need more servers.

Currently we have three primary servers, one in the US one in Asia and one in Europe. The primary server roles are:
CAP, MP, RP and SLP. In the US we also have a central server which has all the roles as the primary server but this is also responsible for software pushes etc.
We're looking into replicating the same design in our SCCM 2007 environment, meaning 4 servers HP ML 580 G5 with 4 quad core processors.

ohhhhh I thought you were going for one for everything!

Those sound good! gets lots of space and put the OS on a raid1 and the SMS data and logs however you like but on different channels.

I'm all in favor of getting all the power you can get so its a non issue. One setup we did had 2500 hundred or so clients connected to 1 box (14k total clients elsewhere) and we had to split off the MP onto another box because the processors (dual xeon) couldnt handle the load.

It wasn't a hard fix but a better box probably wouldnt have choked
