Hi All,

My client has got Visting Cards belonging to 8 different categories like Personal, business, contracts etc. He wants to know if these visiting cards are scanned then how could he use it as an Access database provided that some basic information is also entered. Please advise me on the following.
1) Is it a good idea
2) What format to save the Scanned Cards
3) How to add a new entry? ie how to specify the path from a form?
3) Any suggested table structures and fields?

Thanks in advance

Regards

My penny's worth....

1) Is it a good idea
No - no matter how good your database is, it would take longer to scan and file-link the scanned images than it would do to type the data in, and the data is obviously far more searchable if it's typed in.

2) What format to save the Scanned Cards
If you had to do it, save as JPEG for best file compression or BMP for quick loading.

3) How to add a new entry? ie how to specify the path from a form?
Maybe use file names that relate to your autonumber field (eg. c:\bizcard1.jpg, c:\bizcard2.jpg etc). That way Access can give you the name for the file when you save the scan. Saves you worrying about matching the names up.
