Hi,
I'm new to this but need some advise please.

Just scanned some pro quality slides using an HP scanjet and slide adapter. Scanned in @ 300 res with low sharpness.

Putting it in PS7 I cant seem to get rid of the background grain.

Scanning as Tiff first, I then scale down adjusting image size , then jpeg them but still grainy. i will load an example so you can see.

how do I get rid of these ill effects ?

If you are going to scan slides on a regular basis, I suggest you get a film scanner. Flatbeds just don't hack it. And 300 is way too low for film (35mm) - 2000 at least, more if your scanner will handle it. And keep the foto in TIFF, JPEG will cut into the quality. After you've done everything you want to do to the foto, save it in TIFF and if you need a JPEG save a copy in that.

Cheers Mato,

Since writting this I noticed the imporvement of setting the scanner to 1200. this still isnt the best as I have to remove moire @ 40 - 60 percent and then remove grain @ 40 - 60 percent.

So the scaner is the one.

Can you recommend one for me ?

Cheers.

Ron.

There are many good ones, you could go to the various web sites - Minolta, Canon, &c. Or go to a dealer's web site such as B&H to see what's available and prices. I use the Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual II - the new version is III. And for the money I think it can't be beat. It's limited to 35mm, but film scanners that handle larger film are quite dear. It is also USB.

Cheers again Mat.
Its so expensive and I'm only doin it for a hobby too.
Would be great one day to make some dosh out of my pix.

I only need 35 mm - no bronica's here.

Will check em out for price.

Ciao.

Ron.
