I am responsible for an application that does the following:

Collects data for local Government tax forms. The filled in tax forms are then printed to a LASER printer using printer fonts (Soft Fonts), which are downloaded to the printer. The forms are constructed line by line.

Problems:
1. Application does not print properly to deskjets or inkjets.
2. Adobe PDF writer does not recognize some of the laser commands; particularly the fonts selection commands.
3. If there are even minor changes to the form, it can require major time to redesign it.

I would like to scan the form, fill in the blanks, and print it using true type fonts.

Is this practical in VFP 7 ?
Will it solve my problems ?

I hope my font terminology is not misleading.

Thanks for any help.

you could try. scan the form to an image that is roughly the same size of the paper. Then use it on your report (or form) as a background image, then place the data fields where you need them.

Michael,

Have you considered creating the forms as PDF forms, using Acrobat software? It is possible to fill in and print PDF forms programmatically from within VFP. I don't know much about how to do this, but it might be worth following up. The point is that you would be able to avoid all font-related problems, as these would be hanlded by Acrobat.
