The machine is shutting down properly and I have let scan disk run completely (full scan about 1 hour). I have updated the Microsoft fix for this problem (an IDE issue) still no luck. Scan disk will always run at boot. Any ideas?

Run MSCONFIG, then click on the 'Advanced' button and check the 'Disable scandisk after bad shutdown' box.

If it proves that there is nothing wrong with your drives you might try going into the BIOS under power management settings. Look for how the machine shuts off - some BIOS (by deault) are set to instant off- see if there is another setting that allows a delay- usually 4 seconds. This may fix the problem. Hope this helps you.
