I'm getting a network message alert that a file "x" has taken too long to scan and the scan is being cancelled.

I know that I can adjust the properties in the network messenger to avoid seeing it, but is there a way to configure the scan time out period for VirusScan 4.51? Does anyone know what the default is?

There's a hotfix for this. Ask your McAfee rep on how to get this.

OR upgrade to VSE 7.0 where you can set the time-out value.

Any chance that you can be a little more specific? Which hotfix (do you happen to know the number)?

I appreciate all your help.

Where can you set the time-out value in VSE 7.0?

Hi,

we have the same error message using VSE 7.0 on Win XP-SP1-Clients and even if we set the time-out value on the eposerver (V2.51 with hotfix1) to 60 seconds or more the message still occurs.
Mostly occurs when scanning files in winnt\system32\java (classes) or in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache -here we get the most messages.

Any idea ?

You can change the scan timeouts in the registry. It is under HKLM\SW\Network Associates\TVD\Shared Components\On Acces Scanner\McShield\Configuration. Look for the timeout entries.
