Maybe SBT will still be working in 2050. Ha! Love me some SBT/VFP...

Anyway... Just installed 5.0i client on my first W8 Pro machine. The Server install remains on a Windows Server 2003 32bit server. when I start SBT I get an "Error initializing Application object" error. I click OK and everything *seems* to be normal and OK.

On the SBT shortcut I checked "Run this program in compatibility mode for XP SP3" and "Run this program as an Administrator".

Any pointers on why this error occurs and how to fix? Or ignore?

TIA

Trey

Sorry to be so late replying...

yes, I installed it as an admin level user.

Other than the initial "Error initializing Application object" error, it seems to run just fine. So yes, Matthew, it does run on Win8! :)

One more thing to try. Run SBT Pro 5.0 once as an Admin. Click on the shortcut once to select it. Then hover over the shortcut, right mouse key click and choose "Run as Administrator." You should only need to do this once. Fox will write some files to your registry and the error should go away.

I think I already did this, Matthew. But I'll try again when the user gets back from vacation.

OT - we also have an elusive logo.bmp printing problem from SBT when printing our Sales Orders or Invoices. If you feel like you're interested in helping me chase this one down, I'll post a new topic (again?) about it.

Are you one of the original SBT coders?

Trey

No, just an old reseller who started out writing customizations for SBT users many years ago.

Usually failed logos are because the workstation printing the form with the logo does not have MS Paint installed or MS Paint is not the default program for BMP files on that workstation. Foxpro uses MS Paint to render graphics files. If it cannot find Paint, no rendering.

Well how about this:

My XP Pro machine prints the SBT logo01.bmp correctly. Another machine, Win7, prints a gray box with the filename in it.

On my XP machine, the file association for .bmp files is everything BUT MSPaint. On the Win7 machine it IS MSPaint.

BMP file associations details:
XP: Open and Printto are set to MS Picture and Fax Viewer (some variant of shimgvw.dll) Open is tied to Paint.Net. Convert Image File, Convert With Pixillion and Create Slideshow are all set to Pixillion.

Win7: BMP files associated with "Paint". (No other detailed info available).

On the Win7 I tried to associate with the mspaint.exe found in \Windows\syswow64. No change. Still prints gray box on that machine....

I've installed the client on some Win8 Pro 64 bit machines, and it works fine after you dismiss the "Error initializing Application object" error. The server is a 32 bit Win 2003 machine.
The installation was done as a network level administrator.
Microsoft discusses the error at but I haven't got around to trying the repair yet.
