I have a SBS server 2k3 wih exchange running. I have to rebuild it due to .net being broken( no clue I was just told that by a software vendor). I need to rebuild it but also need to know how to save profiles for the end users. I know I have to disjoin and rejoin them but I dont want to start them from new profiles. How can I get it it to use the old profiles? any help will do.

You can use ExMerge to backup your users mailboxes, NTBackup for your data.

For the user profiles, you will need to convert the profiles from a domain profile to a local profile so you can later use to reconvert them back to the newly created SBS domain.

So, here is what you do. Log onto the local PC as domain admin. If the user to be migrated is a local admin, remove them from the local admin group. Create a local machine account on the workstation that matches the domain login name(the name isn't really important but makes it easier for you to identify later). Log in as that user locally then log out.

Log into the workstation as admin again. Right click My Computer. Choose properties. Click the Advanced Tab. Click Settings under user Profiles. Highlight the domain account and click Copy To. Browse to the local user ID folder under Documents and Settings. Click the Permitted to use button and set the local user ID.

You now have a backed up (local) copy of the profile to be imported when you rebuild SBS.

OK, I've answered your question, but would suggest you not take my advice. Instead how about first troubleshooting the existing installation? What are the problems you are encountering?

I hope you find this post helpful.
