thread1674-1529099 I found this thread but I did not see any closure. I am doing the same thing: intstalling two 2008 R2 standard servers to be the DC with AD (the second for redundancy). I don't want to touch the clients if possible. I know how to join the server to the existing domain. What I am looking for is detailed guidance (step by step) on how to complete the migration. Is there any written document to do this? Thanks.

You need the transition pack to convert the licenses.

Do you have Exchange and SQL running now and want to kill them off, or they were never installed with SBS?

If they were never installed with SBS, then look at my FAQ faq1674-7371.

Transfering licenses would be nice but I heard they are not transferable to non-SBS. Exchange and SQL are installed but not used. They would be killed off. Thanks sniper, I will read your post.

Ah - so you'll need all new liceses. Ah well.

If SQL and Exchange are installed, you're going to need to uninstall those or you'll have a littered AD post-migration.
