One of my accounts has a 2003 small business server that has the internal company website running on it. They use the site for links to remote access, email, and a couple of web based apps that they run. Heres the problem that Im running into.....

When I first started working with them, they were using the Windows integrated firewall on the server as their firewall and the server was doing all of the router duties, DNS and DHCP. Finally, I got them to purchase a Sonicwall TZ170 to make things more secure.

Before I installed the sonicwall, you could go to their external IP from the outside, and it would bring you to a main page for their internal site. The Page has 4 links on it: 'My company's internal website' 'network configuration wizard' 'remote web workplace' and 'information and answers'. When you clicked on any of these links, it would take you to the correct area of the internal site.

Now that I have installed the Sonicwall, and directed incoming traffic on port 80 to the internal IP of the server, the links on the main page no longer work. When you click on them, it comes up to a 'the page cannot be displayed' message. It does work from inside the network though.

Anyone have any ideas on this or run into the same issue?

Thanks,
John

It will very much depend on what services those links provide; There may be additional ports you need to open up for those applications to work properly or communicate to the client with. maybe take the sonic out and then portscan your box from the outside and see whats open?

I assume the clients on the internal subnet can view the intranet web site ok?

In IIS right click the site and choose properties. Click the Directory Security Tab.

The middle option (IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions) is where you can specify the subnets allowed to access your site.

Sounds like you have permissions restricted to the internal subnet. We ran into this issue with VPN clients from remote offices. We added the remote vpn subnets to the granted list and the intranet site works great.

I hope you find this post helpful. markdmac (MIS) helped me with this same problem.

Thanks for the replies. I was working on it last night and what the problem turned out to be was the headers for the site. I deleted the headers, and now when you access it from the outside, it comes up with a logon box rather than the initial white page with the 4 links on it, which is better anyway. After you log in, it now takes you directly to the home page of the site and you can click on links to different areas from there.
