I Have an sbs server running exchange using pop connectors. If I send a message via a client machine it errors saying exchange is in recovery mode. If I send via web mail it sends ok. In the event viewer it shows an application error reporting the exchange to be in recovery mode?????

What is recovery mode and how can I fix it?

Did you or someone else recently run setup.exe with the /disasterrecovery switch? It might be that the database wasn't properly mounted after a recent restore. What exactly is the error you are getting in the event log?

You should always include the event id and the text of the error when you post a problem on Tek-Tips; it makes exploring your problem much, much easier. Someone else might summarize an event differently than you might, and it's good to have the hard facts.

The server is 70km away and the remote workstation is turned off. I can get to the server via TS but cant replicate the problem without a workstation. Server has no Outlook. somebody will be there tomorrow to reboot the workstation I will get the error then. Thanks

Sorry the problem is now resolved.

The customer has 11 computer in the office and the exchange uses pop connectors. The owner is a power freak and wanted all emails to go to her computer and she manually forwards them through. this was fine until someone sent somthing out. The reply address would be a local account (someone@domain.local). We set the primary SMTP's on all the accounts the same. Because of the pop connector no mail was delivered directy to the accounts however the event viewer showed a duplicate name and put the exchange into recovery mode.

To repair the problem we set the local outlook to send and recieve mail and just stored the mail in the exchange mailboxes. seems a waste but the customer is happy.

Thanks All
