I have a WinXP Pro PC running Office 97. I cannot save new Word documents or changes to existing documents on our network server. Excel saves OK! However I can save to the desktop and copy across to the relevant folder on the network.
Using 'Save As' I get an error message to 'Check the path' or 'Choose from the list of existing files'.
Opening from the server, making changes and trying to save back to the server, I get the error message that there has been a 'network or file permission error', but I have and always have had all permissions to the folder and the files contained within.

Has anybody had this problem?

Thanks in advance

NEL

Are you using a different account when you are trying to save from the other pc and does that network account have rights to save files to the server?

Am I correct in believing that this worked and recently stopped working? Have you checked that Windows XP is patched fully up to date?

To [bobw]: No, I am using the same account with the same rights that I have always had.

To [tf1]: It only started since I changed to this new XP Pro PC which has service pack 2 + all updates. And Office 97 service pack 2. All other network functions OK, all other Office programmes OK. Have reinstalled Office and it's service pack aswell!

Hi Nel

Several possibilities spring to mind...

If the server is Netware, then there is a netware patch update to resolve this isuue.

You need full permissions on the server folder (to delete as well as create).

Norton Anti Virus Office Plug-in may cause this problem (disable the plug-in under Preferences in NAV).

Hi tf1

I found a patch for Novell that is a solution to exactly my problem. However the patch was for Netware 4.11, I have a Netware 6 SP3 server. I cannot find any info about this problem and Netware 6/XP. Do you know of any patches for this?

Thanks
