Saving reports - I’d like to know how to save a number of reports to a specific server location and use a table column value as part of the report naming convention. Can this be accomplished through modifications to the SDK? If so, can you point us in the direction of what need to be done?

Thanks

I know only two ways to save Reports, and none of them can save more than one report a time.

I'll write them here for you, hoping they will be useful...

To save reports on a local file you can follow two different ways:
the simplest is to use under Report Studio the "Tools"->"Copy Report to clipboard" menu and paste it in a text (XML) file.
When you have to open it you copy the xml in clipboard and paste using the "Tools"->"Paste Report from clipboard".

The other way is to activate the initialization and execution of ActiveX controls not marked as safe. And registering (using regsvr32.exe ...) the $CRN_ROOT$/bin/lfa.dll

Then when you run Report Studio activate "Tools->Options->Allow local file access" checkbox, so you will have two new menuitem under File menu: "(Local) Open" and "(Local) Save" which you can use to access to your local files.

Thank you for your response!

I'm sorry if I was unclear. It's the report results that I'm interested in saving (PDF) to a specific location and if possible embedding a database value (ClientID) as part of the naming convention (example: crnReportClient generates several reports specific to individual clients (accnt: 1000, 1001, etc.) Each of these reports is stored to a specific location as PDF and it is hoped that each could contain a naming convestion specific to the client such as: crnReportClient1000, crnReportClient1001, etc). It is planned to batch this process (schedule) and the users will need a way to identifiy individule reports.

Thanks,

Hi,

I think you can only do this by working with the SDK. A former collegua of mine has done it in the past. Maybe Cognos has a solution to this on the shelf.

Good luck!
