Hi-

I have a database whose tables are split from the forms, reports, queries, etc. that are on the front end that the users have. I got a question from a user about some records that she deleted yesterday that have reappeared today. Does this have something to do with different users "saving" when they close the database? Did someone save after she had made her changes, and add those records back in? There is an error message (my apologies, I've never written it down or given it much thought until now) that pops up when trying to close the database that states that another user has made changes. Then it gives you the option to save somewhere else, or to save by overwriting whatever changes the other user has made. Is this a glaring probelm with the funtionality of the database that I should fix? If so, what do you suggest I do? Also, sometimes I make changes to forms, etc. in the database while other people are entering data. Is this bringing up the error message? Is this something I shouldn't do? Thank you in advance for your thoughts!--Alisa

Hi Alisa,

you would might like to think to bring those tables in the back end and leave the forms and reports on the front end.
This would resolve all your major problems.
Yes when someone deletes and possibly someone else has the db open and saves after her, then she will shee the data back again withouth her modifications and with all the modification of the last persone (if they where working on the db at the same time)

Hope this Helps.

Hi Alcar-

Thanks for the response. The tables are split from the forms/reports/etc. The users don't have direct access to the tables that the front end is linked to. I think I need further clarification. Do the users need to have the ability to hit a "save" button? Since they're only doing data entry and editing of existing records, shouldn't these changes be made automatically upon exit from the database (without getting any kind of prompt to "save changes")?

If someone makes changes to a record, then exits the database, then later on someone else makes changes to different records (assuming they were both in the db at the same time), then hits "save," will the changes the first person made and saved be lost by being overwritten with the information that was in the previous "version" of the records in the instance of the database that the second person had open?

Thanks-
Alisa
