I'm stuck – I have to get some files to someone who's only got Quark 4.1 or InDesign CS3, and my files only exist in Quark 6. Anything I can do to get them in a format the client can use?

Any help gratefully received.

I think that, unless you have Quark 5, you might have problems. The traditional method has been to save back to 5, open in 5 and save back to 4. Indesign will also do a decent job of importing Quark 4, but I don't believe Adobe has added the functionality for 5

Today, especially in the U.S., it seems you're safer using Indesign if you have to share files as more people seem to be using it.

Using OSX 10.3.9 & 10.4.11 on a G4, G5 & Intel Macbook

...yes, this is a common problem indeed...

...you'll need to save from 6 to 5, open in 5 and save to 4...

...markzware to a plugin for indesign to open quark files, the conversion is pretty good, but caution would be advised:

...and jmgalvin is correct, as indesign will only import quark 4 files, anything higher requires a plugin or jumping through the quark hoops of despair!!

...now i do have q2id so if you wish i can try to convert for you if you are happy to send the quark file to me?

Andrew

...another possibility is for markzware to do it for you...

...on the request a demo page they allow you one file to be converted, i have never tried it so can't comment on what exactly they send back...

...now, there are no guarantees they'll be very quick either (a sameday affair) due to possible backlog of requests, and it is on a first come, first serve basis:

Andrew

thank you all. i think i got the answer, which is basically i'm stuffed! but i've given the problem back to the client and it all worked out okay (i.e they got me to make the text amends).

if only they'd just asked me in the first place...

thanks again for the help.
