Saving a Word Document

I am having trouble with Sharepoint and Word/Excel. If I open a document and make some changes I get the error message

[Microsoft Word]_SaveDoc ERROR: 4172: Path not found

If I then close the document it asks me do I want to save changes, if I say yes the SAVE Completes successfully.

I have searched technet without success for an answer to this one.

Has anybody come across it before

Are you using Office 2003? If you are not, this will not work.
