I've got several Windows clients (2k3) who will back up all other savesets but System State:\ Error reported is below:

1 retry attempted

Registry - Cannot save Registry key SOFTWARE: 0x00000057

Registry - Error saving

save: RPC error: RPC cannot encode arguments

save: save of SYSTEM STATE:\ to aixnwsa1 failed

Networker is 7.4 on AIX... anyone seen this before?

save: RPC error: RPC cannot encode arguments" means in general that NW does not understand the input data.

Let me suggest that you compare what might be different with respect to other systems. Could also be due to a virus.

You also find some more tips in the Error Message Guide.

There can be several reasons for this error, one is anti-virus applications. If the client has some form of anti-virus installed, try shutting it off and test a new backup. If it is successful then you could try and disable the scanning of outgoing files, if that is possible.

Another reason could be if you are running a 32-bit version of NetWorker on 64-bit Windows.

What version of NetWorker are you running and on what Windows version? Has the backup of this client ever worked, and if so, what has changed?

Cheers!

Also check out that you have some free disk space on disk you have the NW client installed. When NW makes a registry backup it will create image of windows registry to NW tmp-dir. It may require as much as 1GB of free space.
