I added a new client to a group/pool last night and ran the backups. I keep getting the following error:

"savefs: RPC error: RPC send operation failed. A network connection could not be established with the host."

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be or what I can check to resolve it? Thanks in advance!

there can be many issues that will cause this, but almost all of them will be network related....

are there any firewalls between them ?
can you ping, nslookup from the client to the NSr servers Name, and also IP address
can you ping, nslookup etc from nsr server to client using its name & IP address

can you run an rpcinfo -p from the client to the nsr server
and vise versa... i.e.
(on nsr svr) # rpcinfo -p clientname
(on client) # rpcinfo -p nsrsvrname
is a good indication something on the network is blocking...

run a traceroute between them to see how they travel, maybe you can see where it is failing....

from the networker server, run the Group from the command line just for this one client, using the probe param to see how it goes...
# savegrp -vp -c client GROUPNAME

include 'n' param to run it as a dummy nosave test
# savegrp -vnp -c client GROUPNAME

have you tried running a basic save from the clientside (client initiated)
# save -s nsrsvr -vv -l full -b POOL /tmp

You may define him if the name can be resolved.
But is the client online at all?

Since upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 on client, we cannot run NOTES DB backup.
Backup Server is now running Legato Networker for Windows v7.3. Just upgraded form v7.1.1.
Notes client is running windows 2003, nw client 7.3 for Windows and Notes module v3.0.
We receive the following error message:
The time specified for parameter 'NSR_SAVESET_BROWSE' is invalid: Lotus_Notes_M_Browse (lnm_parm_time|10|15|0)
Any idea?

I get the same error on v7.2.1 server with notes module 3.0
When I run a savegrp against a test group it tells me the retention policy for another instance in another group is wrong.
This retention is set to 60 months, I have tried 5years also same result.
When I set the retention to a quarter it runs fine.
Also the manual say that NSR_SAVESET_BROWSE and NSR_SAVESET_RETENTION set in the config file file, will override anything set on the client, Well it doesn't, as far as I can see.
Thing is I need a 5 year policy on this, not just 3 months

Ok, thats weird, cleaned the tmp directory on the networker server and now it looks like its working.
Really thought I had done this before, but apprantly not.
