Hi, i am using form 6i (6.0.8.11.3) and database 9.0.1.

i have been using form 6i build-in READ_IMAGE_FILE to load file system images to tables with LONG RAW column for months. But i have no luck at all to save into BLOB cloumn although READ_IMAGE_FILE can display the image on form 6i image field, BUT NO SAVE into table BLOB column at all.

My alternative ways include SQL*loader, DBMS package etc, but i still prefer Form 6i can save to BLOB column. I checked form 6i help and it says FORM 6i will only save to LONG RAW and i am surprised that on the web forums many people discuss about using READ_IMAGE_FILE to save to BLOB?!

help?!

Im also trying to work this out. If anyone has any answers it would be great to hear them. I have an older database that uses long raws to store images, but when I was working on a new project, everything I read implied that Oracle was phasing out long raw and we should be moving to blob images. But I could never get 6i forms to "work" with blobs. I could never even et forms to display blobs. Can anyone point us in the right direction to handling blob input and display in forms?

thanks for any input...

Im sure I put patch 6 on when i installed. I hate to be stupid again, but. Is there a quick, easy way to tell what patch level 6i is at?

thanks

form6i should be able to display the BLOB column in table.
but the version 6.0.8.11.3 can not load image into BLOB column by READ_IMAGE_FILE. (only long raw workable)

Run form program, help/about, you can tell the version,as mine is:
Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.11.3 (Production)
Oracle Toolkit Version 6.0.5.35.0 (Production)
PL/SQL Version 8.0.6.0.0 (Production)
Oracle Procedure Builder V6.0.8.11.0 Build #449 - Production
PL/SQL Editor (c) WinMain Software ( v1.0 (Production)
Oracle Query Builder 6.0.7.0.0 - Production
Oracle Virtual Graphics System Version 6.0.5.35.0 (Production)
Oracle Tools GUI Utilities Version 6.0.5.35.0 (Production)
Oracle Multimedia Version 6.0.5.34.0 (Production)
Oracle Tools Integration Version 6.0.8.10.2 (Production)
Oracle Tools Common Area Version 6.0.5.32.1
Oracle CORE Version 4.0.6.0.0 - Production

That's the version I have. Is there a newer version of Form Builder 6i?

Yes, you need to have customer ID to download from metalink.oracle.com

I am considering about form 9i or form 10g as Oracle recommend.

After upgrading my forms (to 6.0.8.24.1) it suddenly works...

One major application we have to support here is purchased from another vendor, and is written in 6i so Im sticking with 6i for now rather than have to work in multiple versions. I think Id probably go ahead and move on to 10g as soon as it was available if I still didnt have to support the old application...

Great! do you have patch set number?
How many patches from 6.0.8.11.3?
I will try it.

patch 15 i think, Im home now and the info is at work, but if you go to the patch download on metalink, its the latest 6i patch i could find...

Finally, have time to patch it and all is done. (though i use a lot http gateway to load blob recently.) Form 6i is real easy.

Anyhow, after upgrade, it is strange the form6i's net8 assistant, and net8 easy config refuse to load. Anyone experienced the case?
