We are running SAV for SMTP on our Exchange 2000 sp 3 server. This server is in a cluster. SAV SMTP Version 3.05 build 109.
The problem is thus: we have 6 mail stores of approximately 60 gigs each. Consequently, the scan that takes place is never ending, as a new scan is initiaited when new virus defs are updated. The previous scan continues, so we'll have 5 scans sometimes going on at the same time. We had to failover to our other mail server because the process smsctrl.exe was over 1 gig in memory utilization and the server was going to crash.
I have spoken to Symantec tech support and their answer was to decrease the store size. This will be a huge task and I am wondering if anyone can suggest another solution to this problem.
to reiterate:
1) SAV is in a constant and never ending scan of the stores
2) The smsctrl.exe is growing larger each time a new scan is initiated
3) we have 6 stores of appr. 60 gigs a piece.
Our options were to:
1) Turn off the store scanning which is too dangerous due to zero day viruses
2) Archive the stores (which won't occur for awhile)
Does anyone have any good information or ideas regarding how to get around the failover required when the smsctrl.exe process is unmanageble?
Thanks in advance.
