i maintain a small office network that someone else built.
i always check the antivirus logs in the morning been checking them for 5 years.........now when i start the av it now ask for a server group password.just started this and i don't know how to proceed from here....HELP

THANKS robert...

every server group has a password that was set by whoever installed the first server... the default is symantec I believe... but I dont know if there is anyway around it.

I tried the reg change to change password to default(symantec)
but it changes back to the original when i close it and try the password. maybe i'm not stopping the services properly.
can someone HELP??

THANKS robert

There is also this neat little utility from Symantec to rese the password. It's call iforgot.exe

I looked at that and pulled it up,just gives you the 27 digit
code.i don't have any support with symantec.that won't work for me. ANY other ideas?????

iforgot.exe just shows you the incrypted code

no help to reset....

My ??? is why won't the registry change hold up,i change the registry just as the instruction say's in this forum and it changes back to what it was.i'm logged in as admin but the change will not stay.........

is there only ONE service to stop before doing reg or is there more than one??

HELP Robert

The following services can be running, depending on your configuration. Stop all of them that you have:

Intel Alert Handler
Intel Alert Originator
Intel File Transfer
Intel PDS
SAVRoam
Symantec AntiVirus Definition Watcher
Symantec Event Manager
Symantec Network Drivers Service
Symantec Password Validation
Symantec SecurePort
Symantec Settings Manager
Symantec AntiVirus

Thanks lawnboy, i stopped all services that i had listed
and did the registry change in the addresscache. ?? is there a wrong way to exit the registry,i don't see where to save it,i just close it.it changes back to original setting after i start the services back.i REALLY need to set the default (symantec) password back

Thanks robert
